BSMGP Website: New Conservation Pages

We’re pleased to announce an exciting addition to the British Society of Master Glass Painters’ website which deserves widespread support. ‘Conservation in Focus’ is edited by the well-known conservator, Steve Clare, ACR FMGP [Fig. 13].

It contains technical articles and conservation records relating to the conservation of stained glass. Articles about the conservation of late eighteenth-century glass at St Alkmunds, Shrewsbury, and replacing wire ties in situ, by Keith Hill and Rachel Thomas have already appeared. New material will be added regularly. One of many aims of the page is to create an on-line resource of key texts for conservators, including articles relating to the philosophy and ethics of conservation.

Items will be selected for inclusion by a distinguished editorial team consisting of Steve Clare ACR FMGP; Peter Cormack FSA, the well-known art historian and author; Sam Kelly ACR, head of the stained glass conservation workshop at Salisbury Cathedral; John Beauchamp, RIBA MRIAI AABC IHBC, the Cathedral Architect at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral; and Marian Austin MA., a recent graduate of the Masters degree in Stained Glass Conservation and Heritage Management, at York University.
