This publication of Neil Moat’s discussion on the future management of post-Reformation stained glass is long overdue. Since his untimely death in 2017, at the age of 58, university art and conservation departments have reported a steady trickle of requests from students for copies of his work. His paper offers a vision of how this important body of stained glass could be recorded and preserved. He identifies primary questions that will need to be addressed in this process and his work outlines how it could be achieved. It was Neil’s hope that the document would ‘provoke lively discussion, and for that reason publication through Vidimus is to be welcomed.
