The famous mid-fourteenth-century clerestory windows with representations of members of the de Clare family wearing armour and heraldic surcoats are among those described and illustrated. Michael Cothren’s Picturing the Celestial City: the Medieval Stained Glass of Beauvais Cathedral has been published by Princetown University Press. Professor Cothren is a leading expert on the glass at Beauvais, and his book traces the glazing of the cathedral through four successive campaigns bridging the century between 1240s and the 1340s. Priced ₤55, the book has 288 pages and includes many photographs.
