Welcome to February’s issue of Vidimus. This month, we are delighted to present a richly-illustrated feature by David King, drawing on his unrivalled knowledge of the stained glass of Norfolk to throw light on the little-studied subject of stained glass production in the post-Reformation period. Focusing on surviving heraldic glazing, David identifies on stylistic grounds a number of groups of panels, before suggesting glaziers’ workshops, known to have been active at the time in Norwich, possibly responsible for them. In News, Roger Rosewell reports, with beautiful images, on a recent private viewing of cartoons of stained glass at Tewkesbury Abbey produced in the early 1920s during restoration work by the well-known glazing company of Kempe & Co. There are also reminders of upcoming deadlines for awards by the Glaziers’ Company and for registration for the Stained Glass Museum’s Spring Study Weekend, together with details of an upcoming lecture and the Stained Glass Museum’s plans for celebrating its 40th birthday! Finally, in Books, we announce the digital publication of, and provide a link to, Willy van den Bossche’s exceptional Bibliography of Glass: From the Earliest Times to the Present.
