Lockdown Online

As restrictions return across much of the UK and Europe, online resources and events are more welcome than ever. An increasing number of organisations are working to make lectures and exhibitions available online. A few of our favourites are below, and we encourage readers to get in touch with online exhibitions, resources and events to watch out for next year.

British Society of Master Glass Painters

The BSMGP’s Autumn Lecture will be held online on Friday 27th November at 7pm. Conservator Steve Clare will talk about the painted glass of the 18th century, and the transitional period into the early 19th century. Tickets can be booked online (£4.25 for members, £5 for non-members).

Churches Conservation Trust

The Churches Conservation Trust has been running a wonderful free series of lectures, livestreamed via Facebook. Past lectures are available online and cover a wide range of topics.

Here at Vidimus, we particularly enjoyed “Stained Glass in English Parish Churches”, a two-part lecture by Dr Jasmine Allen, curator of the Stained Glass Museum. Both parts can now be watched online, via the Stained Glass Museum’s YouTube channel.

Contemporary Glass Exhibition: Journeys – Teithiau

An exhibition of contemporary stained glass Journeys – Teithiau, which would have been held this summer, in the Grade I listed All Saints Church, Weston, in Wharfedale, has moved online. Featuring work by contemporary artists Jonathan Cooke, Catrin Davies, Nicola Kantorowicz FMGP, Elizabeth Lamont, Rachel Phillips, Christian Ryan AMGP and Caroline Swash FMGP.

The exhibition can be viewed here, and further events are planned as the project evolves.

York Minster Stained Glass Navigator

Serendipitously, York Glaziers Trust’s York Minster Stained Glass Navigator launched shortly after lockdown began (see Issue 131) Having launched with the Great East Window and St Cuthbert Window, work to add more of York Minster’s windows to the Navigator has continued apace, and three of the nave aisle windows can also now be explored online in incredible detail.
