As the summer draws to a close, Vidimus is pleased to share good news about the safe custody and further development of the Corpus VItrearum picture archive. As one of the online resources at the cutting edge of the digital archive boom of the 1990s, the archive was beginning to ‘creak at the seams’ and the resources needed to secure its legacy and give it a robust future initially looked beyond our reach. The Corpus Vitrearum is therefore immensely grateful to the Archaeology Data Service for coming to the rescue! We take this opportunity to thank Dr Joseph Spooner of the Corpus Vitrearum and Dr Katie Green of the ADS for all their hard work behind the scenes to make the transfer possible.
Our August feature, by Dr Penny Hebgin-Barnes and Erica Statham, reflects new research triggered by the Stained Glass Museum’s spring study tour of Leicestershire. It takes us back to Withcote Chapel, featured in our September 2016 issue, in which the shocking theft of one of the panels was reported. The authors remind us that this glass has never been recovered.
