The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) is delighted that as part of our UKRI iDAH funding agreement we are able to provide a new home for the CVMA Picture Archive. As part of the move ADS has developed a new Advanced Search and a new Map Interface for the Picture Archive, and where possible existing data has been enhanced through the addition of live links to the Church Heritage Record and ICONCLASS. This move ensures that the CVMA’s valuable data will receive the long-term preservation and security of the ADS’s CoreTrustSeal-accredited repository. In addition though the ADS’s partnerships with ARIADNE and the new Heritage Science Data Service, the CVMA Picture Archive will also be discoverable through their search portals expanding the CVMA’s potential audience. The ADS is looking forward to other opportunities we can explore with the CVMA in the coming year including; providing metadata to other interested search portals, and converting CVMA data to IIIF compliant images allowing CVMA images to be viewed in IIIF-compliant viewers alongside images from other archives and galleries.

The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) is the leading accredited repository in the UK for archaeology and heritage data, with over 25 years of experience. Founded in 1996, the core activity of the ADS is the long-term digital preservation of the heritage data entrusted to our care. To do this we follow a policy of active data management and curation to ensure the integrity, reliability and accessibility in perpetuity of all our data. All resources archived with the ADS are Open Access, and delivered through our website to facilitate re-use by the heritage sector and wider community for research, teaching, and public engagement. In addition to its archival function, the ADS also plays a crucial role in promoting good practice in digital data management within the archaeological community, offering technical advice and guidance to researchers and other stakeholders.
